Fire detection and alarm systems are at the heart of any robust fire safety strategy. At Astro Fire Systems, we don’t just install equipment - we deliver confidence. Whether your building is a busy commercial hub, a quiet care facility, or a mission-critical data centre, we design systems that protect lives, safeguard assets, and keep you fully compliant.

All our solutions are designed and installed in accordance with BS5839-1:2025, the UK’s gold standard for fire alarm systems in non-domestic premises.

What Type of Fire Alarm System Do You Need?

Fire alarm systems fall into distinct categories based on the level of risk, occupancy, and regulatory requirements. The right system for you depends on whether your goal is life safety, property protection, or both. We’ll help you define the most appropriate system category through a detailed site review and risk assessment.

Life Protection Systems (Category L)

These systems are designed to protect people, especially in buildings with sleeping occupants or complex escape routes.

  • L1 – Maximum coverage: Detection in all areas of the building
  • L2 – Escape routes plus high-risk areas
  • L3 – Escape routes and adjacent rooms
  • L4 – Escape routes only (corridors/stairs)
  • L5 – Custom-designed for specific life safety objectives

Property Protection Systems (Category P)

These systems are aimed at early fire detection to protect buildings and assets, even when the building is unoccupied.

  • P1 – Full building coverage for fastest response
  • P2 – Targeted detection in business-critical or high-risk areas

Manual Systems (Category M)

Manual systems rely entirely on manual call points and are appropriate for low-risk environments where people are always awake and present.

Addressable or Conventional Fire Alarm Systems?

Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

We supply and install both:

Addressable fire alarm systems

  • Each device (detector, call point, etc.) has a unique address
  • Offers precise location tracking of alarms and faults
  • Ideal for larger or complex buildings

Non-addressable (conventional) systems

  • Group devices into zones for simpler installations
  • Cost-effective for small to medium premises
  • Suitable for basic compliance in low-risk areas Our team will guide you on the best format for your site’s size, layout, and operational needs.

Open Protocol = Long-Term Value

We only install open protocol fire alarm systems, meaning:

  • You are not tied to a single supplier for servicing or future expansion
  • Maintenance and parts are more accessible and cost-effective
  • You retain control and flexibility over your fire safety infrastructure

This approach ensures your system remains future-proof, adaptable, and economically maintainable throughout its lifetime.
